blank canvas box top

box top made from an antique feedsack

this particular piece has no printed graphics but does have a lovely smattering of golden brown spots near the arm opening on both sides. it also has holes (biggest hole pictured) and frayed edges around the bottom - all of which have been reinforced to prevent out of control unraveling. the neck and arm openings are finished. its imperfections add character and are telling of its hard-working past.

made from cotton canvas - worn to perfection over 50 years of existence. to best preserve raw edges, hang dry or tumble dry on low

measurements taken laying flat:

length (top to bottom) = 19”

width = 33”

neck diameter = 9”

arm opening = 9”

feedsacks were known for their durability - often carrying up to 100 pounds of grain, flour, salt or animal feed. they were commonly repurposed in the household as clothing, towels or however they could be put to use. it is my goal to preserve and display their stains, holes and frays as badges of their past experiences. i hope they will continue to gather many memories in their new homes.
